Ask the estimator to separate these lines rather than hiding them inside a vague labor total.

Authorize Diagnosis With a Defined Output
A diagnostic charge should buy evidence, not unlimited experimentation. Before approval, state the exact symptom and agree on the first-stage output. Intermittent faults may need more than one visit or an extended monitoring plan. That limitation should be stated. Clearing faults without saving them, changing several parts at once or promising a fixed repair before reproducing the concern weakens both the diagnosis and the estimate.

Two estimates can show different labor totals because their scopes differ. Make the Parts Route Explicit

“OEM,” “genuine,” “aftermarket,” “remanufactured” and “used” are not interchangeable labels. A lower-cost part can be appropriate for some noncritical applications when quality and fit are proven, while safety, high-voltage, emissions, calibration-sensitive or warranty work may require a more controlled route.

Keep Electrified Audi Work in a Separate Scope
Mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models add electrical architectures that require correct identification and safety controls. A 12-volt battery problem can create communication symptoms, while a high-voltage warning needs qualified handling. Do not let a generic “electrical diagnosis” line conceal which voltage system will be tested and by whom.

The lower estimate may still be right if it is based on a narrower, well-supported repair. The goal is not to choose the largest scope. Reject Estimate Shortcuts That Hide Risk
- A parts list created only from a fault-code description, without testing the circuit or system.
- A package that ignores VIN, engine, gearbox, brake or suspension configuration.
- An unnamed part source or warranty that excludes removal and installation without saying so.
- Several control modules proposed before battery, charging and communication health are checked.
- A transmission rebuild proposed without describing the reproduced behavior and supporting data.

- A high-voltage repair described as routine electrical work without safety scope.

A parts price does not show how long the vehicle may be unavailable. If the car must remain dismantled while a decision is made, clarify storage and reassembly consequences in advance.
