A puddle under an Audi does not prove the gearbox is leaking. Engine oil, coolant, differential or quattro fluids, and transmission fluid can collect on undertrays and travel away from their source. We identify the fluid, transmission type and actual leak point before approving repair.
S tronic, tiptronic and multitronic systems do not use one universal leak procedure
Audi transmission construction, fluid specification, fill method and level-check procedure vary by gearbox family and exact application. The VIN, gearbox identification and vehicle data are used where needed before fluid is added or parts are ordered.
S tronic dual-clutch transmissions
Depending on the generation, the unit can have separate hydraulic/mechatronic and gear sections, specific connector or sealing arrangements, and temperature-dependent level procedures. A visible leak must be tied to the correct circuit.
Tiptronic automatic transmissions
Possible leak points can include pan or housing sealing, cooler connections, output seals, electrical connector sleeves or other gearbox-specific interfaces. The exact unit determines what is serviceable.
Multitronic where applicable
Older front-wheel-drive applications use a different transmission architecture and fluid procedure from S tronic or tiptronic. It should not be serviced from a generic Audi gearbox checklist.
e-tron and other electrified drivetrains
Battery-electric and hybrid drivetrains can use reduction gears, different lubrication circuits and high-voltage components. A conventional automatic-transmission leak description does not apply universally.

How we confirm an Audi gearbox fluid leak
Can you drive with a transmission fluid leak?
Arrange recovery
- Large active leak or fluid pouring from the gearbox area
- Transmission fluid-level or serious gearbox warning together with suspected fluid loss
- No drive, severe slipping, harsh engagement or repeated loss of gear
- Severe abnormal gearbox noise or overheating warning
- Fluid is reaching hot exhaust components or creating another immediate hazard
A minor seep may allow a cautious workshop trip
If the leak is small, there is no critical warning, the gearbox selects and drives normally, and there is no evidence of rapid fluid loss, a short cautious trip for diagnosis may be reasonable. Avoid hard acceleration and prolonged driving until the source and fluid level are known.
Seal, gasket, line or housing repair comes before any fluid-service decision
The correct repair can be a plug seal, pan or cover sealing repair, connector sleeve, shaft seal, cooler line/O-ring, housing repair or another gearbox-specific component. The failed point and any underlying reason for failure are addressed first.
A leak repair does not always require a transmission flush
After repair, the fluid is restored according to the amount lost, fluid condition and the exact transmission procedure. A complete fluid service is performed when it is due, when contamination or repair scope justifies it, or when the applicable procedure requires it. We do not automatically flush every leaking Audi transmission.
Correct fluid specification
The required gearbox fluid is selected by exact transmission/application and approved specification. “Genuine Audi transmission fluid” is not used as a blanket description for every gearbox circuit.
Correct level procedure
Fluid temperature, engine state, gear-selection sequence and fill point can matter. The applicable procedure is followed instead of a generic fill-until-full rule.
Verify the leak is gone and the gearbox operates normally

A plug seal or accessible line is a different job from an output seal, case repair or leak that requires major gearbox removal. The final quote depends on the confirmed source, transmission type, access, parts, fluid quantity/specification and any related damage. Can I use transmission stop-leak additive?
We do not recommend a generic stop-leak additive as a substitute for repair. Compatibility varies, and the correct approach is to find and repair the failed seal, gasket, line or housing.
Does every transmission leak need a fluid flush?
No. Fluid replacement depends on how much was lost, its condition, maintenance status, contamination and the exact repair procedure. A complete flush is not automatic.
Can I drive with a small transmission-fluid leak?
A minor seep with normal operation and no critical warning may allow a cautious short trip for diagnosis. A large leak, low-fluid warning, severe slipping, no drive, overheating or major noise is a reason to arrange recovery.
How is Audi transmission fluid level checked?
The procedure depends on the exact gearbox. Many units require a specified fluid temperature, vehicle position and operating sequence. There is no single method for every Audi transmission.
Do you use only genuine Audi parts?
Genuine Audi parts are normally used. OEM-supplier or aftermarket alternatives may be discussed when requested and when compatible, suitable and available for the exact repair.
