Four different complaints can lead to four different services
The words alignment, balancing and rotation are often used as if they mean the same thing. They do not. The first useful step is to describe what the driver feels, what the tire shows and when the condition appears.
Pull or drift
Check alignment, tire pressure, tire conicity, road crown and suspension clues. A pull under braking may belong to the brake system instead.
Vibration at speed

Uneven wear

Toe, camber, caster and thrust angle describe different relationships
Toe describes whether the tires point slightly toward or away from the centerline when viewed from above. Small errors can scrub the tread and alter straight-line behavior. Camber describes the inward or outward tilt of the wheel when viewed from the front. Its effect depends on the vehicle, tire, load and suspension design, so a visible tilt is not enough to approve an adjustment.
Caster is the forward or rearward angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side. It contributes to steering stability, return and effort, but many vehicles have limited adjustment at the front. The rear axle also matters. Thrust angle describes the direction in which the rear wheels push the car relative to the centerline. A rear error can leave the steering wheel off center even when the front numbers look acceptable.
Alignment figures are interpreted against the correct vehicle data and adjustment range. A green screen reading does not prove that the steering wheel is centered, the tires are healthy or the suspension is straight. Before-and-after numbers are useful evidence, but they are one part of the inspection.

Alignment can move out of range for reasons beyond the alignment rack
A curb strike, pothole, road debris or a hard wheel impact can bend a tie rod, control arm, knuckle, subframe or wheel. A small visible mark does not show whether the component remains dimensionally sound. If a measurement will not settle or a tire keeps wearing after adjustment, the physical cause deserves a second look.
Worn bushings and ball joints can let angles change under load even when static readings appear acceptable. A loose bearing, damaged damper, spring issue or air-suspension height fault can also alter the relationship between the wheel and body. Adjusting around movement may produce a temporary screen result and a poor road result.
Previous accident repairs, aftermarket springs, spacers, different tire sizes and mixed wheel specifications change the context. Manufacturer data for a standard suspension may not describe a modified car. We record relevant modifications rather than quietly treating them as factory equipment.
A tire can pull because of its construction or wear direction. Swapping tires may be a diagnostic step only when safe and appropriate, not a guarantee. Tire rotation also depends on directional tread, staggered sizes, axle requirements and the condition of each tire.
One front adjustment is not automatically a four-wheel alignment
Some vehicles offer meaningful adjustment at both axles, while others have limited factory adjustment and require component inspection when a number is outside range. Rear geometry guides the vehicle, so it must be measured even when the complaint feels like a front-end issue. A front-only adjustment may leave a rear thrust error untouched.
Quattro and other all-wheel-drive Audi systems depend on tires that are suitable for the vehicle and appropriately matched. Alignment does not correct a rolling-circumference mismatch, damaged tread or incorrect pressure. Those conditions can affect handling and driveline behavior independently of the geometry readings.
Air-suspension models should be measured at the applicable ride setting. A low corner, compressor problem, level sensor issue or calibration concern can shift the baseline. Performance S and RS cars may have different suspension heights, bushing rates and alignment targets than an A or Q model. The VIN, installed package and actual hardware guide the setup.
Balancing is rotational
Weights correct uneven mass around a wheel and tire. It mainly addresses speed-related vibration, not toe or camber.
Rotation is positional
Moving tires between approved positions can even wear, but directional, staggered and mixed-size setups limit the options.
Alignment is geometric
Angles and axle direction are measured relative to the vehicle and adjusted only where the hardware allows.
From tire report to road result
A useful alignment appointment makes the decision traceable. It does not start by turning an adjuster or end at a screenshot.
Record the concern
Note pulling, steering offset, vibration, wear, impact, recent work, speed and road conditions. Ask whether braking changes the behavior.
Inspect the foundation
